During Hecke’s studies of mathematics and physics with computer science he became more and more attracted by computational neuroscience, which yielded to a PhD about the computational investigation of the psychological problem of selective attention. 1.) If I was awarded a Nobel prize it would be in the field of….
…modesty. No, seriously, I can not imagine anything on my scientific path that would be eligible for a Nobel price.

2.) On the other hand, my sore points are…
…self-motivation. Often, I need someone else to become productive.

3.) I share my know-how on Starmind because…
…I like to help others. Also I appreciate the affirmation that I really learned stuff that is of interest to others.

4.) The most interesting Starmind question so far was…

…Care about my children, crawl the web for crazy pics, play underwaterrugby with my first leagues team, oh sometimes I work.

…there will be either a lot of working alternatives for using coal, gas or uranium to produce electricity, or no lights due to the lack of resources.

7.) If I ruled the world…
…it would be even more chaotic than now. I would socialize the most important commercial sectors, provide free access to health care, any form of education and knowledge and public transportation, and ban money. Than I would look for smart people that deal with the consequences.

Ein Jahr ist eine relativ kurze Zeit. Nicht aber für ein Jungunternehmen wie Starmind. In den letzten zwölf Monaten wurde sehr viel unternommen, um Starmind weiter zu entwicklen. Viel dazu beigetragen hat Andy Villiger. Er war der erste Starmind Mitarbeiter und ist nun bereits seit genau einem Jahr an Bord. Andy entwickelt seitdem – zusammen mit Marc Vontobel – die Starmind-Plattform. Er ist leidenschaftlicher Programmierer.

Die letzten paar Wochen hat Andy damit zugebracht, die Starmind-iPhone-App zu entwickeln. Die App wird euch bald im Apple App Store zur Verfügung stehen. Wenn Andy nicht gerade bei uns mit “Hacken” beschäftigt ist, bildet er an der Berufsschule in Baden die nächste “Nerd”-Generation aus – Applikationsentwickler um genau zu sein. Diese Schule hat er früher selbst besucht, als er seine Informatiker-Lehre machte.

Neben Starmind und dem Unterrichten ist er ausserdem als Freelancer mit allem beschäftigt was auch nur annähernd mit Source-Code oder Computergrafik zu tun hat. Er hat schon früh damit begonnen: Während seiner Schulzeit hat Andy Computerspiele programmiert und unzählige Websites entwickelt. Deshalb ist Andy genau der richtige Mann für das Starmind-Team. Er steht uns nicht nur mit seinem IT Know-how zur Seite, sondern lockert mit seiner guten Laune und seinem Humor regelmässig unseren Arbeitstag auf.

Das Marketing hat sich in den letzten Jahren fundamental geändert. Wir bewegen uns weg von der Einweg- und Massenkommunikation. Spätestens seit dem Wachstum der Social Media Netzwerke, muss man die zunehmende Kraft der Menschen erkennen, die miteinander – aber auch direkt mit den Unternehmen – kommunizieren. Dieser neuen Ära will Starmind Rechnung tragen und hat hierzu die Stelle des CCO Chief Community Officers geschaffen.

Meine Name ist Daniela Wallner Kern und ich stelle mich seit April 2011 dieser Aufgabe. Als Kommunikationsspezialistin war ich u. a. bei Swissair, Zürich Versicherung, diAx, Hotelplan und Wallner Wasseraufbereitung tätig – dies vorwiegend in Führungspositionen. Als Unternehmerin führe ich parallel meinen eigenen E-Shop lilyblue.ch. Der erfolgreiche Abschluss als eidg. dipl. Kommunikationsleiterin hat  mir dabei geholfen.

Bei mir dreht sich alles um die Starmind Community. Im Zentrum steht die Zufriedenheit der Starmind Mitglieder. Mein Aufgabengebiet beinhaltet u. a. die Analyse von User-Feedbacks, die Kreation von Marketing Aktivitäten aber auch die Förderung der Produkt Entwicklung durch den Dialog zwischen Community und internen Stellen. Eine Frage auf die ich eine Antwort habe: „Wer führt das Unternehmen? Die Kunden!“.

Last year, Robin Guldener built a miniature version of the rHex robot for his diploma thesis. This robot is capable of handling various terrain materials and going over obstacles as high as 110% of its own height. Today, one year later, Robin Guldener runs his own business, iApe. The long-time Starmind is an acclaimed developer of iPhone applications. His newest creation for the Mac, “Colorize“, ranks in the top ten in 45 countries and is one of the most frequently downloaded apps in the United States and Switzerland.

With the help of “Colorize“, any photograph can be turned into a masterpiece within minutes. Once an image is loaded, the app will turn it into a greyscale version, allowing the user to brush the colour back into any object and make it stick out from the overall picture. The young entrepreneur’s last app, “Drunken Contacts“, is a helpful device, to retrieve and reorganise contacts by date of adding. “With Drunken Contacts, you never have to search for that contact you added yesterday again, it brings them to you within a single tap”, Robin explains.
